Dear China Spring UMC Family,
After receiving the latest updates from the CDC, and in consultation with local officials, your church staff and leadership have developed a plan for our ministries for the foreseeable future. This plan is designed to slow the spread of any sickness, specifically for COVID-19 and to keep our church family safe. With these endeavors in mind, please note the following changes:
This Sunday, March 28th, we will not gather for worship nor have Sunday school. Instead, there will be one live-streamed worship service that will begin at 11:00 am and can be viewed on our church’s Facebook page.
This service will be led by some of our staff and a small group of volunteers. Our order of worship will look much the same as it does on any given Sunday. It is our hope that much like individuals and families are accustomed to coming to church and participating in worship, you will do the same at home. We hope you will be an active participant in these live-streaming services by singing, praying, joining in the liturgy, participating in the offering and meditating on the reading and proclamation of God’s holy word.
As you watch the live-stream, you can indicate your attendance by clicking the “like” button on the video. You can also participate by sharing your prayer concerns or other thoughts by leaving a message under the video. Please don’t forget that even as we modify and transform our weekly activities, our overhead and ministry expenses continue. You can participate in the offering of our live-streamed services by giving your gifts online at or by mailing them into the church office.
As was the case last week, we will not be having our Wednesday Family Meal, nor will we be having any of the other activities that usually follow for our children, youth and adults.
As the White House guidelines recommend no gatherings of more than 10 people for at least the next fifteen days and the importance of social distancing, all other gatherings are being canceled and where possible, postponed. For some upcoming gatherings, such as church committees, we will be using videoconferencing in order to conduct necessary church business.
Please note these changes in schedule will run through at least the end of March. More than likely only live-streaming of services will continue beyond then and throughout April. We will continue to keep abreast of the latest information and will keep you informed accordingly. In lieu of these changes, please see the following changes our staff is implementing in order to minister to the needs of our faith community.
As hopefully you already know, for both our children’s and youth ministries, we have recently begun using the “Band” app (available both for computer and mobile devices) for communicating content and messages related to the respective ministries. Beginning this week, we will begin sending out messages via these apps containing similar content and messaging that they would have received had they been able to attend church on Wednesdays and Sundays. Matt and Kaitlyn have some very creative ideas for sharing that will include not just static content but videos as well to make the experience more engaging and interactive.
If you have not yet heard of the “Band” app or need more information, please contact Matt Rodgers, our Youth Director at firstname.lastname@example.org or 940-564-0037 or Kaitlyn Campbell, our Children’s Director at email@example.com or 512-629-1703 for more information and/or how to set this up and begin receiving this important content each week. Since our children and youth are not able to come to church on Sundays and Wednesdays, we hope to bring the church to them.
We are also working on the ability to communicate more effectively with the adults of our congregation. Emails will likely remain the main vehicle to convey this information. But much like we are doing with our youth, we envision those communications to be more than static content, but contain videos as well to make the experience more engaging and interactive.
We are in “once in a generation” territory and we are moving forward prayerfully and thoughtfully. It is the hope and prayer of our staff and leaders that we are able to continue ministering to the variety of needs our church family has.
In closing, first and foremost, my hope and prayer for each of you reading this update is that you and your family are staying healthy and well and will remain that way. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all. During this challenging time, we face ourselves, if you find yourself in need of something the church or myself can help with, please let us know. Our church’s office number is 254-836-1107. I can be reached via email at and on my cell phone at 214-803-3609. May we all take comfort in the words from the prophet Isaiah:
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
~ Isaiah 41:10
Prayers of Health and Well Being,
